December 2003 expiration on Delaware porcelain remake of
the 1942 type. On the old 1942 plates, the C would have been smaller.
It would
have also been the indicator of a commercial license plate.
However, in allowing
older style of plates for use in Delaware, C plates often appear on other types
of vehicles.
In this case, it was placed on a pick-up truck or SUV type vehicle.

This badly overexposed picture of a 60's vintage 4 digit
Delaware license plate with an April 2003 expiration was on sale on eBay Motors
for a Buy It Now Price of $4,600.00 during February 2003.

Another Delaware
Historic Plate Company remake with a an October 2003 expiration.
The
owner had it on eBay the week of 11/19 to 11/23, 2001 with a $5,000.00
minimum bid.
She evidently felt it was original, but it is not.
Even if
it were original, a starting bid of more like $100.00 would have made
sense.
The C in the serial would also indicate that is a remake of a commercial
plate even though this one was supposedly put on a passenger car.
Delaware
authorities don't seem to be too choosy on the serial numbers on these
remakes.

1951 Station Wagon
issue with April 2003 expiration.
This was seen on an Audi, as Delaware
now allows the use on passenger of any older plate back to the 42 style.

The owner of this plate asked the DMV commissioner in the 70's for permission to get a friend of his, also a DMV employee who made actual sheeting used for regular plates during that period, to make him a new 1750 with irregular numbers.
The numbers are screened or printed on the plate.
This plate, showing a September 2004 expiration was authorized by the DMV Commissioner.
