Images were sent to us by Andrew Osborne
of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the pictures were taken by Tom Bragard, Manager
of Inspection and Services at the Nunavut Motor Vehicle Division. More information
on the plates appears in the August 2005 issue of Plates, the magazine of the
Automobile License Plate Collectors Association.
Images below were provided by the Nunavut Motor Vehicles
Department and sent on to us by Andrew
Osborne of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Nunavut has a very strict policy with regards to the
return of license plates, and has been recently hit with a rash of "thefts"
of plates. The Motor Vehicle Department has also been pestered with up to
50 to 60 calls a month requesting plates. In the December 2002, ALPCA Register,
Andrew Osborne reports that ALPCA has been told,"Any resident or otherwise
who is caught stealing a licence plate from a vehicle in Nunavut, expired
or otherwise, will be prosecuted to the highest level the law will allow.
It is extremely unfortunate that the idea of outside provocation with a promise
of lucrative gain to commit a crime by sending illegally obtained licence
plates out of Nunavut exists."
